Current Projects

1.      Ibn Sina Community Medical Center, Southwest Houston.

Ibn Sina Foundation Community Medical Center in Southwest Houston was established in 2001 and expanded in March 2007. This unique medical center provides rare specialty medical services to Houston’s uninsured and underprivileged patients. Funds for the new Center and the necessary equipment were supported by Houston’s philanthropic community, the City of Houston and the Ibn Sina Foundation Board of Directors – a $1.8 million project.

The rationale for the new Center was to allow additional space for the ever-increasing number of uninsured and unemployed/low-income patients seen by the clinic each year. Specialty care services are now offered to Houston’s uninsured such as women’s health, pediatric care, diabetic management program, nutrition, cardiovascular and cancer screenings/services and eye care.  In addition to housing specialty medical clinics, a special space is designed for physicians to educate patients about their disease, their required medications and/or nutrition.

2.      Ibn Sina Community Dental Center, Southwest Houston

Ibn Sina’s Dental Center was established in 2003 with one dental chair started with Dr. Asim Sundrani as a voluntary dentist. The need for dental services in SW Houston was so tremendous that we had more than 3 months waiting period. This program expanded in 2007 from 1 to 4 dental operatories in a highly professional environment. We grew from a voluntary dentist to 3 full time dentists and a hygienist. The dental department provides comprehensive high quality dental services at affordable rates. We provide services from simple dental exam and x-ray to comprehensive and complicated dental surgeries. We provide dental services to more than 5,000 low income patients and families each year.

3.      Ibn Sina Community Clinic, Clear Lake.

Established in December 2004, the Clear Lake location provides primary care services to over 10,000 patient visits per year in a small 1,200 sq ft facility, with very limited space for dental care. This clinic was expanded in 2010 with additional space for Primary Care, Gynecology, Dentistry for adults and children and dental X-ray Services. The Clinic is now open from 9 am to 9 pm Monday through Friday and Saturday 9 am to 1 pm. Clear Lake clinic is expected to provide services to more than 16,000 patients this year. Clear Lake has served more than 50,000 patients since its inception in 2004.

4.      Ibn Sina Pediatric Clinic, Southwest Houston

Twenty-three percent of our patient population is children under 21 years of age. These children neither have any medical insurance nor qualify for any of the public programs. More than 7,000 such children visit Ibn Sina clinic for medical and dental needs. Therefore, the board of Ibn Sina Foundation is expanding with a new Ibn Sina Pediatric Center in SW Houston to address the pressing needs of the under served children from low-income communities, and who have no access to health services. A full time pediatrician with dedicated staff serves children, who have health conditions ranging from minor medical ailments to early childhood diseases. Our target is to provide complete immunization to all children in the area, who are under two years of age and to help them enroll in National ImmTrac, Texas Immunization Registry.

5.      Ibn Sina Community Clinic, South Post Oak, Houston

Ibn Sina Foundation, for a period of ten years, has refined a model of care that successfully serves unemployed/low-income population with the greatest need for care and helps to avoid emergency room visits. We seek to be in the forefront of meeting these challenges of unemployed/low-income population by expanding our capacity to provide low-cost, high-quality, medical and dental care to all who need it.

We believe that opening a new clinic on South Post Oak will help us alleviate the burden on the frequency of emergency rooms-visits and hospitals-out patient sick visits and administrations, while allowing us to refine our model, leading to easier replication at future clinic sites. The new clinic will provide necessary medical, dental, and specialty care to low-income clients regardless of whether they have health insurance. This will also help us to provide education on prevention and health practices that can reduce the impact of chronic health conditions, like heart disease, diabetes and other chronic health conditions which are currently endemic in the population we serve.
