Origin and Growth

In 2001, a group of Houston-area physicians joined together with local business and health care professionals to establish the Ibn Sina Foundation. They were inspired by a common desire to improve the availability and effectiveness of preventative and primary health care services for a growing area
population of low-income, uninsured/underinsured, underserved families.

Their overarching goal was to enhance the quality of life and extend the life expectancies of this segment of the population.

The group christened their foundation “Ibn Sina” in tribute to an eleventh century Persian physician, philosopher, and writer who is widely regarded as the father of early modern medicine. Their vision was sweeping: Primary Health Care for All, rooted the conviction that every human being deserves to have
access to quality health care. For the past 21 years, Ibn Sina Foundation has provided integrated preventative and primary care in a clinical setting at affordable prices to all who seek it, treating every individual with dignity and respect.
Its focus is preventing and controlling disease in its earliest stage.

The foundation started small, with one clinic staffed by one part-time employee four hours a day, serving families with little or no access to preventative care and few resources to pay for it.

In 2002, its first full year of operation, Ibn Sina served 3,500 visiting patients. Over the past two decades, driven by patient need it has expanded its range of services and locations. Today, the foundation operates seven community clinics from five locations in Harris, Fort Bend, and Jefferson counties.

With a patient-driven approach to expansion and a focus on strengthening the integrated health care service model, Ibn Sina is the fourth-largest health care service provider in Harris County.

Forty-one percent of its patients are Hispanic, 29 percent are African American, 19 percent are Asian, and 11 percent are White/other.

Why Choose Us?

Every person deserves access to excellent health care, but many marginalized individuals and families are unable to access the preventative and primary care they need to address small problems and maintain good health.

For these valued members of our community, the Ibn Sina Foundation’s community clinics provide comprehensive health care solutions at a fraction of the cost charged by private or public medical or dental facilities.
